他给小王子举了一个例子说：“如果我号令一名将军变成海鸟，而这位将军并没有从命我的号令，那么这就不是将军的错误，而是我的错误。”

But the little prince, having now completed his preparations for departure, had no wish to grieve the old monarch.

国王说：“假定我号令一个将军像胡蝶那样在花丛中飞来飞去，或者号令他写作一部悲剧，或者变成一只海鸟，而这位将军接到号令不履行的话，那么，是谁的弊端呢？”

小王子迷惑：“他向来也没有见过我，如何会熟谙我呢？”

“这要比及甚么时候呢？”小王子问。

国王仓猝抢着说道：“我号令你问我一个题目。”

国王又说：“嗯！嗯！我想，这个星球的某个处统统一只老鼠。夜里，我闻声它的声音。你能够审判它，每隔一段时候你就判处它极刑。是以它的生命取决于你的讯断。但是，你每次判刑后都要赦免它，我们必须有节制地对待这只老鼠，因为我们只要这一只老鼠。”

"Then you shall judge yourself," the king answered. "that is the most difficult thing of all. It is much more difficult to judge oneself than to judge others. If you succeed in judging yourself rightly, then you are indeed a man of true wisdom.""Yes," said the little prince, "but I can judge myself anywhere. I do not need to live on this planet.

The little prince looked everywhere to find a place to sit down; but the entire planet was crammed and obstructed by the king's magnificent ermine robe. So he remained standing upright, and, since he was tired, he yawned.

小王子内疚地摸索道：“我能够坐下吗？”

"I made you my Ambassador," the king called out, hastily.

“是的，”小王子说，“但是我能够在任那边所审判我本身，我没有需求留在这个星球上。”
